Housing is a critical political issue in the UK and the West, and the design and provision of good quality homes is vital to the success of the future city. Justin McGuirk, author of Radical Cities, looks to activist urbanism in Latin America for imaginative design solutions. Anna Minton’s writing and research has put issues of social housing and the privatization of public space in the public eye, as in her new book Big Capital. Alex Vasudevan’s The Autonomous City – a global history of squatting – reimagines urban living and the citizens’ rights to urban space.
